Installing a resin anchor bolt

Occasionally, using a traditional expanding plug, screw, or anchor fixing in a breakable substance like concrete, brick, or cement can cause splitting or cracking. This is frequently the case near the material’s edge, affecting the substrate’s strength, efficiency, and aesthetics.

A resin anchor bolt can solve this problem. These resin anchor bolts are inserted into pre-drilled holes near the material’s edge. The resin will then cure around the fixing, producing the same, if not stronger, pull or load bearing as a traditional fixing.

Instead of a direct fixing, a section of studding or threaded bar can be inserted into the resin onto which fixtures can be bolted. However, care must be taken when preparing the hole so that the resin anchor bolt can provide maximum strength.

Clean the pre-drilled hole

After drilling the resin anchor bolt hole, it is critical to clean up any debris or dust. A resin anchor bolt’s nature allows it to bond with the concrete or masonry inside the hole. However, if there is a layer of debris in the way, it will bond with this instead and become unstable.

Fill with resin

Inject the resin into the pre-drilled hole with an appropriate applicator. To avoid trapped air pockets, ensure that the nozzle width and length are correct for the resin anchor bolt and that the nozzle is slowly withdrawn.

Allow curing

Allow enough cure time for the resin to provide maximum strength after twisting the threaded bar or stud into the hole. This will differ depending on the manufacturer, so make sure to read the technical datasheets for the relevant resin anchor bolt.
